Is there a subscription for the sounds?

No. All 30 sounds, including white noise, are stored on the clock. You pay $99 today and nothing after that.

What if the power goes out overnight?

A memory backup battery keeps your alarm settings, so when the power comes back your sunrise and alarm are still set. The clock plugs in for everyday use.
